Ichimatsu Crawling Baby

I found the cutest little doll at the "Antique" sale this past weekend.

Ichimatsu dolls are the name of the realistic Japanese play dolls that were popular in the 19th and 20th Century.

Click on photos to see them larger.

He is 10 inches long and 6 inches wide (Using the mat as the basis of measurement).
From carefully wiggling, I can tell that his head turns and his arms are jointed. I can't tell if his legs are jointed. I don't think so.

He is sewn into his kimono, so I don't have any idea on how to check for age or manufacturer. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm pretty sure he is made out of Gofun (like composition, but made out of eggshells and rice paste over paper).
